The State of Self Membership

Let’s build a life that’s rooted in your values—with systems that actually work for you.

Yes, please.

Say goodbye to the start-strong, burn-out-fast motivation loops.

Say hello to sustainable, grounded growth.

You’ve spent way too much time swinging between inspiration and exhaustion, trying to piece together routines that never quite stick, when what you really want is a steady foundation: a sense of internal stability that helps your habits, decisions, and priorities stay clear—even when life feels messy.

But how do you stay grounded and consistent without relying on rigid routines (that you give up on after a week anyway) or unsustainable oops-I-went-too-hard bursts of motivation (that leave you burned out and right back where you started)?

Let me know if this sounds familiar...

The Cycle That’s Draining Your Energy
Let's Skip to the Solution
Look, I know you. Because I've been there...

You want to live in alignment with your values, make real progress on what matters, and feel steady and organized in how you move through life.

But right now, you’re stuck somewhere between imagining a more intentional life and barely keeping up with the one you’re already in.

It feels like you’re always trying to catch up—with your to-do list, with your growth, with the version of you you know you could be… if you weren’t always running on empty.

You’re starting to realize that the way you’ve been doing things isn’t working anymore.

Trying to hold it all together with motivation and sheer willpower is exhausting—and it’s not getting you where you want to go.

And here’s the truth: the problem isn’t you at all.

You’ve been doing your best with the tools you’ve had—but you’ve never had a system that actually supports your nervous system, your energy, or your real priorities.

It’s time to stop white-knuckling your way through your life and personal growth.
  • There is a way to stay consistent without burning out.
  • A way to bring order to the chaos without demanding perfection from yourself.
  • A way to do more of what matters (habits! goals! relationships! passion projects!) without draining your energy, overloading your schedule, or running yourself into the ground.
"These workshops are truly transformative. Just doing Module 1 alone has been illuminating. I can't thank you enough." —Victoria J.

Let me introduce you to...

The State of Self Membership

The #1 place to align your life with your values (and actually follow through)
State of Self combines clear, actionable personal growth strategies with ongoing structure and encouragement from people on the same path.
Here's what that looks like:

State of Self combines clear, actionable personal growth strategies with ongoing structure and encouragement from people on the same path.

Here's what that looks like:

The Toolkit

12 themed courses you can work through at your own pace—informed by research in Positive Psychology and behavioral science, and providing in-depth training and actionable strategies to create lasting personal growth and fulfillment. You'll also have access to a wide range of resources, including worksheets, templates, and guided meditations designed to help you deepen your growth, integrate what you’re learning, and navigate any obstacles along the way.

The Community

No more going it alone. You'll have access to a vibrant community of kindred spirits, deeply dedicated to personal growth and transformation. Connect with fellow members in the Community Forum, join group meetups and virtual events, and take part in transformative biannual challenges, all while knowing you have a network of accountability partners who speak the same self-growth 'language' in your corner.

A little more about those 12 courses...

These aren’t just isolated modules or one-off lessons. Each course is a focused, step-by-step experience, combining the science, self-awareness and personal patterning, and real-life application to make the lessons easy to implement.

They're also organized into four distinct pathways, so you can zero in on the area of growth you’re most ready for and see real changes, fast.

The Inner Foundations Pathway

When you know who you are, you stop needing to prove it. These courses help you define your identity, clarify your priorities, and root yourself in a sense of purpose that allows you to wake up each day knowing you’re living in alignment with what matters most to you.

Values Blueprint
  • Pinpoint your top core values so every decision you make feels like a step toward the life you want.

  • Uncover hidden value conflicts that cause stress, procrastination, or guilt—and resolve them so you feel at peace with yourself.

  • Write concrete personal value statements you can revisit anytime you feel pulled in too many directions.
  • Learn to use your values as a north star to guide career choices, relationships, and personal priorities without second-guessing yourself.

Personal Strengths
  • Identify your natural strengths so you stop undervaluing your abilities and start using them intentionally.

  • Discover new ways to harness your strengths to make work and life feel more energizing and exciting.

  • Stop trying to fit into roles or expectations that clash with your natural abilities—and instead build confidence by seeing concrete evidence of what you’re already great at.
  • Use your strengths to stand out in your career or community without feeling like you’re “trying too hard.”

Success Equation
  • Define what success actually looks and feels like for you (not your family, peers, or social media feed).

  • Identify and drop the hidden “rules” you’ve been following about what you think success should be, so you can stop feeling endlessly "behind in life." (You're not!)
  • Develop a 3-part definition of success that is solid and specific enough to cut through the overwhelm when you’re faced with competing priorities—but flexible enough to help you pivot when needed without losing sight of what you truly want from your life.

The Structured & Sustainable Pathway

The right structure makes it easier to show up, even when life feels messy. These courses help you streamline your life so you’re always moving forward in a way that feels doable.

Prune & Simplify
  • Identify the commitments, possessions, and habits that are quietly draining your energy and joy.

  • Declutter physical spaces to make them calmer and easier to maintain.

  • Release outdated goals that no longer align with your current vision.

  • Create mental space by clearing your to-do list of low-impact tasks.

  • Follow a step-by-step process to let go of what no longer serves you—in all areas of life—so you can say “yes” to what lights you up without squeezing it in around the edges.

Streamlined Systems
  • Create personalized physical and digital systems for keeping track of your life so nothing important falls through the cracks.

  • Learn the simple, 4-part "PSTA Method" to start using systems as a safety net that can catch you when life gets hectic.
  • Streamline recurring tasks so they take a fraction of the time.
  • Build routines that make your week feel more predictable (without being too rigid).
  • Spend less time managing life and more time living it.

Reset & Refresh
  • Replace stuck, stagnant energy with specific micro-actions that reignite your drive and sense of purpose whenever you're in a slump.

  • Turn uncertain transitions (starting a new job, entering parenthood, graduating school, retirement, etc.) into intentional turning points by identifying exactly what you want to carry forward and what you’re ready to release in this new chapter.

  • Create a personal reset toolkit you can return to anytime you need a boost—whether you’re in a full life overhaul or just need a quick mental refresh.

The Harmony Pathway

Life feels better when your inner and outer worlds are in sync. In this pathway, you’ll learn how to regulate your nervous system, manage your energy, create harmony and balance between the different domains of your life, and protect your peace while still pursuing outer growth.

Self-Nourishment
  • Experiment with daily rituals that genuinely regulate you and restore your energy, so that restoration is a non-negotiable, not a luxury.

  • Create your own concrete self-nourishment "menu" that takes your natural rhythms, available time, and realistic capacity into account, so your self-care actually fits into your life instead of falling to the bottom of the list.
  • Understand the difference between true rest and numbing out, so you can choose what replenishes you before burning out.

  • Learn how to engage the brain–body pathways that activate the parasympathetic nervous system, so you can intentionally lower stress.

Empowered Boundaries
  • Identify where your boundaries are too porous (or too rigid!) so you can recalibrate them to protect your time, energy, and emotional well-being without burning bridges or shutting people out.

  • Build relationships that feel mutual and respectful, so you’re no longer over-giving, over-accommodating, or endlessly people pleasing.
  • Recognize and address boundary violations early so you can address them before resentment builds.
  • Create clear guidelines for how you want to be treated—and learn exactly how to communicate them in a way that is direct, kind, and firm.

Life Equilibrium
  • Balance multiple priorities in a way that feels cohesive and balanced, instead of like a constant tug-of-war.

  • Find harmony between the most important roles you play in your life—friend, spouse, parent, entrepreneur, musician, activist, athlete, student, or anything else—ensuring they each get a version of you that feels present and intentional.
  • Complete a "domain revamp" to reinvest in the areas of your life that feel important but currently under-prioritized.
  • Create a rhythm that gives you enough time for work, rest, and play.

The Growth Edge Pathway

Real transformation happens in the space between who you’ve been and who you’re becoming. These courses help you step into that space with courage and curiosity.

Habit Mastery
  • Replace discipline fueled by guilt with habits supported by genuine desire.

  • Understand the science of sustainable behavior change so you can leverage your brain's natural wiring to build new habits (instead of fighting against it).
  • Learn the practical, repeatable process that makes it easy to stack new habits onto things you already do every day.

  • Make it easier to disrupt unhelpful patterns in the moment so they don’t become default behaviors.

  • Learn how to bounce back quickly after you’ve broken a habit streak instead of giving up entirely.

Upgraded Mindset
  • Recognize and rewrite the unhelpful thought patterns that have been quietly shaping your choices.

  • Unpack the stories you’ve inherited from others (family, culture, peers) that no longer serve you, so you can replace them with beliefs that truly align with your values.

  • Learn to separate facts from assumptions so you can make decisions based on reality, rather than fear or projection.

  • Replace vague self-criticism with concrete self-awareness—so you know exactly what to work on, without falling into the trap of self-blame.

Flourish Roadmap
  • Identify (and strategically release) the blind spots and cognitive biases that keep you from thriving.

  • Understand the difference between languishing and flourishing (and pinpoint where you are right now) so you can turn vague feelings of “meh” into a clear plan for re-engaging with joy and fulfillment.
  • Spot your personal triggers that pull you toward stagnation so you can respond with tools that restore momentum fast.
  • Build the confidence to pursue opportunities outside your current comfort zone.

  • Wake up excited about what’s ahead because you’re building a life that truly fits you.

Let's Go!
When you really boil it down, you have a few options.
  • You could... keep going it alone. Cobbling together advice from podcasts, reels, and the latest book you half-read, only to feel like you’re constantly “working on yourself," but not seeing any concrete change in your life.
  • You could... keep overdosing on inspiration. Scrolling for hours, saving quotes and TikToks with “life-changing” advice—but no practical application.
  • You could... keep jumping on the “shiny new habit” cycle. Trying out a new morning routine for six days before one late night derails you, at which point you drop the whole thing and revert back to hitting snooze three times and starting your day in a rush.
  • You could… keep relying on your existing circle to hold you accountable (enter the infamous group chat) but it's really more like a support group for procrastination instead of progress.
  • You could… keep waiting until life calms down to finally start taking your growth seriously. While in the meantime, weeks, months, and even years pass while your dreams stay stuck in the “someday” category.

Long story short: You can keep doing the same thing and getting the same results.

Or, you can decide to make your growth inevitable—with a plan, a community, and a process that works in real life, not just on your vision board.

"In the past I have read a lot of self help and personal development books but without a practical plan and logical steps to follow they have had little impact. State of Self gives me both - the research and thinking and the methodology to fully integrate it into my life. Amanda has clearly put so much work into State of Self and I have definitely found that the lessons have really stuck with me - I have reaffirmed my values and become much clearer about my strengths. I am now working on self nourishment and have already starting to let go of some of the guilt about rest and taking care of wellbeing. I would absolutely recommend State of Self, it is well researched and the online platform is easy to use. I love interacting with other community members and seeing their progress too."

Have we met?
Hey—I’m Amanda Hilton, a personal growth and psychology specialist and the founder of The Simply Well.

Here's a bit about how I got here...

In fall of 2019, I was doing it all.

By day, I was a teacher at a small Montessori-based school. In the evenings, I was commuting into New York City to finish my Master’s degree from Columbia University's Clinical Psychology program. I spent my weekends completing a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training, and once certified, teaching yoga classes for adults, families, and children. And somehow, in the in-between moments, I was squeezing in my other passions—practicing piano and guitar, tutoring to build up my savings, staying committed to my own personal yoga practice, rock climbing, studying entrepreneurship, and working on my little side project, The Simply Well.

In many ways, things were “working.” My days were scheduled down to the minute, my calendar was color-coded to perfection, and I was making progress in every direction. If overbooking yourself was an Olympic sport, I’d be up there on the podium, matcha in hand, accepting my gold medal.

The problem? I was running on empty.

The problem? I was running on empty.

While I’d always considered myself a driven person, and a proud, self-identified multi-passionate, I was stretched too thin. I was constantly doing more but never feeling like it was enough. I was trying to be everything all at once, and instead of feeling fulfilled, I was overwhelmed and disconnected from the joy that these passions should have brought me.

The truth was, I knew I couldn’t keep chasing everything without losing something. I knew that doing more wasn’t the answer. What I needed was to do things differently—in a way that didn’t force me to give up the goals, hobbies, and passions I loved, but that allowed me to pursue them without burning out.

That’s why today, I focus on helping people like me—driven, goal-oriented individuals with a passion for growth—find a way to pursue their ambitions with more ease.

Leveraging my experience in education and psychology, I apply research-backed insights from psychology, neuroscience, and educational theory to help you in focus your energy where it matters most. Inside State of Self, you'll craft personalized strategies that fit your unique life, so that you can reach your goals and become the person you want to be, while also honoring your core values, being a force for good in the world, and making room for joy, self-care, and rest along the way.

So if you’re ready to learn the best personal growth tools available today (without needing to sift through the endless the noise and fluff in self-help industry to find them)... let's get started!
